Value, trust and power are the three factors that can permeate in almost every public encounter. In this dispute the value driver the community had was availability, commitment, and longevity. “Our values tell us how the world “ought to be”. They are standards by which we judge events and the behavior of other people and by which we decide what is worthy of our support and what deserves our condemnation” (Carpenter & Kennedy, 1988). The community wanted to see the police was available to the public call in this matter. They wanted to know that they wouldn’t just leave them alone to handle it by themselves. Commitment to the people that the job would be handled and the lives of the people will be safe. I think the police did that by having press conference and telling us what was going on. Lastly, longevity was the most important value driver because no one wants they life cut short over something as stupid as retaliation. It wasn’t everyone that killed this man, but someone from a rival gang. There’s no way killing random people would bring this man back.

It was still doubt in people minds that it could be real. The following month of August had so many people killed in gang violence it seemed unreal. The police had gained the public trust to protect them, but the news is saying differently making people doubt. Do you believe the numbers you hear and see on television or trust the people who are protecting you? I still didn’t want to take a chance, so I still lived my life in fear, and so did a lot of people that I had known too. I kept my kids in the house instead of letting them play in the front yard. Made sure someone took my oldest back and forth to
