I come from a family where you have to work to get what you need, not what you want. From a family where we are all united and push each other to do the best and defeat the obstacles life throws at us; from a life living paycheck to paycheck and sometimes barely enough money to buy food, but those little things are what make me strive to be determined and never give up. Being raised in a room, with an inflatable bed and with a hardworking single mother made me realise that not everything is cupcakes and rainbows. My mother is my role model and the reason that I want to succeed, I want to see her happy and smile a real smile, not the fake one she puts on for my siblings,

I am so caring that I cry when I see a dead animal in the middle of the road. I like to help others expecting nothing in return because I believe that just one act of kindness everyday can change the world. I get unhappy when I see elderly people alone, especially one time when there was an elderly man and his wife at walmart. They were getting ready to leave and the man was putting his wife’s walker away, but he couldn't put it inside, so I went to go help him, right away I knew that he was grateful, he thanked me and said that there are very few people who would help a random stranger. When i got back to my family they all laughed at me because I helped him, but I told them, that if that were them they would have wanted someone to go out of their way to help them as well. I always think that nobody knows the story behind a face. No one knows the life people are living. I always try to help, my mom, my siblings, and random strangers because it doesn't hurt to be kind. I feel proud of myself knowing that I am making a difference in the world by being kind and helpful. Another personal quality that I believe I have is being diligent. I always do my best at everything, even on things I do not like. For example, for community hours I have to do 60 hours in order to graduate, but so far I have 342 hours. I really like to over achieve in most of things I do because I want to prove to myself that if I set my mind to

As long as I could remember my mom has always told me to “learn a lot, learn as much as you can, so that you would be able to have a better future”. She would also say that “as long as you put effort into your work, then everything will be alright.” I believed her, since she’s older than me and she’s my mother. Buenas Tardes” was the first thing I heard as I walked in the smell of fried chicken and the sound of flipping tortillas. As we ate at that rectangular table, we all shared how our day had gone. “Ok finish up your dinner and begin doing your homework,” my mom would say. My siblings and I would sit at the table doing our homework.…

When reflecting on my character; my most dominant trait has stood out, being a caring person. From listening to a friend in need, feeding the homeless and volunteering for Make-A-Wish I have learned I love to lend a hand. It was seven o'clock in the evening when the sun finally started to set and the children in the neighborhood begin to head home, when I could distinctly hear Survivor by Journey; Jorge was calling my phone. Jorge had been distant for the past few weeks and as a matter of fact his attendance at school was quite poor so I was not sure what he needed. In a soft monotone voice and with long pauses between his sentences he says, "Hey man, I need someone to talk too.…

I have always been more of an observer than a participant. I think that it is the reason I am quite perceptive with people—I do my best to see them, beyond the masks that they put on for the world. It was this perception that motivated me from a young age. I grew up quiet, watching as my mother worried and cried for my sisters, who went down darker paths, dropping out of college and spending an increasing amount of time with bad influences. I understood, even then, that I didn’t ever want to cause that kind of stress to my mother.…
