Fivefold Ministry Research Paper

Over the course of this class we have discussed the fivefold ministry and the different aspects of each ministry. I like to think of ministry like fingers- they all have separate tasks but together, one ultimate purpose. As written in Ephesians 4:12-13, the fivefold ministry’s purpose is “to prepare Gods people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” This means that a person may not only be called to preach but also to be an apostle as well. Followers of Christ need to remember not to let themselves be absorbed with the titles that they hold, but to be servants to all like Jesus. Jesus is the prime example of the fivefold ministry. Just like our hand works together to eat, Jesus showed us the way each of these ministries overlapped and became one. Jesus himself said in John 10:11 “I am the good Shephard. The good Shephard gives his life for his sheep.” Just like a pastor, Jesus gave himself to save His people from sin, he gave his life to preach the gospel so that all would hear there is a way. It says in Luke 4:15 that Jesus went into the Galilean synagogues and began teaching them and they glorified him. this is yet again another prime example of Jesus in the fivefold ministry. Jesus was the ultimate prophet as stated in Matthew 21:11 “It is Jesus the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee”. People knew him as a prophet because he was going out and speaking the revelation that God had given him. Evangelist preach the good news, which is what Jesus did, but he also was the good news. He came to save us from ourselves. Last but certainly not least, Jesus was the ultimate apostle. God sent Jesus to the world to die for us, which is one message that was heard by many
