This week’s requirement is to select five (5) of the cognate strategies, provide a definition, and an example. The five cognate strategies I have selected are clarity, conciseness, response, credibility and emphasis. I selected the following format; word, Example, and Response. Please note some of the information is redacted or hidden from view in an effort to protect sensitive information.
Clarity: Writing in a way that is easily understood by the reader. I respond to solicitations from the government one of the requirements when responding is to be a clear as possible, the people that receive the responses reads at least 20 responses a day so it is necessary to respond to the questions

… standard terms and conditions included therein in full text, be incorporated into the resulting contract/purchase order/award as an addendum.”
Response: I have provided the information requested using bullets highlighting the requirements for the reader.
Arrangement: The Sequence of the items in a document. When I write a response the document must flow; this means the first paragraph states the problem, second paragraph provides a response and the third paragraph wraps everything up and provides additional information.
Example 3: “On behalf of Life Technologies, thank you for the opportunity to respond to the above-referenced Request for Information (RFI)…
Life Technologies Corporation is a large business. Life Technologies has a current SAM (System for Award Management) … remittance address is Life Technologies Corporation, 12088 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693.”
“Please note that all of the products we are offering are commercial items under the Federal Acquisitions Regulations (FAR). Pursuant to FAR 12.302(d)… Should you have any questions regarding our products and/or pricing please contact our Sales

Paragraph 2 gives company information that the customer needs when issuing a contract, and paragraph 3 provides government regulations along with the contact information for personnel that can be used before, during and after the sale.
Credibility: Able to have the audience believe the person is making a representation that is honest.
Example 4: “We take this opportunity to reiterate our previous communication that our field service engineers are the only personnel that are manufacturer-trained and certified to perform these services. Life Technologies invests in the continuous training of its field service engineers to keep them current with the development of our instruments and technology. There may be personnel of other service providers that were previously employed at Life Technologies however they no longer undergo the on-going training that Life Technologies require for its field service engineers to maintain their certification.”
Response: This lets the customer know Xxxx Company has the only certified personnel; this gives credibility to our support staff and lets the customer know if other companies reply they are not certified. If the customer does not use certified equipment the warranty is

The purpose of this memo is to analyze the effectiveness of the rhetorical approach of the Petition for Alien Relative form application using different techniques and criterion. After analyzing this application form in detail, it fulfils most of the technical communications but there is still room for improvement so that it will be accessible to a wider range of audiences. In this rhetorical analysis, I decided to use the five criteria that we discussed in class: whether or not the application addresses particular readers, helps readers to solve a problem, reflects the organization’s goals and culture, is produced collaboratively, and its usage of design, words, and graphics. In effect, the UCC has relaxed the rules relating to sales transactions by removing many of the technical requirements relating to contracts under the common law. Under the UCC, it is now far easier to form a binding sales contract.…
