As previously mentioned, semicolons “separate two main clauses that are closely related to each other but could stand on their own as sentences if you wanted them to” (How to Use). One of the main reasons for using a semicolon is to stop using short and choppy sentences or used “for combining relatively longer sentences” (Welcome to Purdue). Semicolons have the potential to give the paper a more consistent flow, so long as they are not used excessively. Both sites hold a vast number of information waiting to be used. Purdue OWL is quite helpful, as they include a search bar, helping the user find exactly what they are looking for. When using the search bar, the site shows different entries that revolve around the searched topic, giving more of a detailed search. Grammar Girl’s search bar is a little more simplistic; however, it is quite useful for those who are looking for basic searches.
