Example Of Selective Mutism

Improved Essays
Throughout my childhood, I struggled with selective mutism. This was where in certain social situations, I was unable to speak (Shipon-Blum, Paragraph 1). This put a burden on my learning abilities because I was not able to ask for help. To help get through, I was put into therapy. It just so happened that therapy was one of those situations that I could not talk in. This immediately became a struggle because at this point there was not much anyone could do.
My parents decided to wait and see if I would grow out of it. As high school hit, things were not getting better. I was already suffering academically, so my family decided to try a new approach. I started going to a psychiatrist who prescribed me Zoloft for anxiety and Vyvanse for ADD.

It’s extremely surprising how difficult that stage is, as it gets harder through the journey from childhood to Adolescence ending up to grownup’s world, and that doesn’t happen overnight. As a student, you can say I have been quite successful.…

“Come on, get out of the car. It's not a big deal. You need to get to school,” Those were words that I commonly heard the second half of my freshman year of high school. Of course most high school age kids don’t want to go to school, but it's for trivial reasons like the fact the work is boring. There are many examples I could use, but I feel like the most recent would work best. Just a couple weeks ago I experienced myself acting irrationally towards my parents and I was neglecting their feelings, it all started when I began college. My parents were having a hard time with the transition of me not being home anymore and they were always calling and texting me wanting to know what I was doing, and it became very aggravating. My parents became too overwhelming and would not leave me alone, I eventually just stop responding for a while or when I was…
