Every night all of the memories she made that day get erased. Henry, everyday, decides to make Lucy fall in love with him using a different tactic each time since she does not remember who he is. Henry maneuvers around Lucy’s brain injury in order to have a relationship with her even though he is not a committed person.Marlin and Doug tell Henry to stay away from Lucy, but Henry still defies them because he has fallen for her every single day. “Anterograde amnesia is the loss of the ability to create new memories, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, even though long-term memories from before the event remain intact”(Mastin). In the movie, Lucy remembers everything before the date of Sunday October 13, 2002 which is the date of her car accident. Everyday Lucy wakes up and thinks it 's the same Sunday which is her also her dad’s birthday. On his birthday, Lucy and her dad always travel up north to get a pineapple, but on that Sunday a stray cow got in the way resulting in a horrid crash. Since Lucy damaged her hippocampus embedded within the temporal lobe in the accident, she cannot make new memories. She clearly remembers everything else that happened in her life before the accident. Her long term memories before the accident are intact which relates to anterograde amnesia where individuals are able to recall events that are already in the memory that happened prior to the specific accident(Mastin). In this case of anterograde amnesia, At night, all the memories Lucy obtained that day disappears and she starts with a new, clean slate the next day.
