I was assigned to Mrs. Michelle Lawrence’s fourth-grade classroom for my practicum observations and final lesson. This was a great choice for me because this is the grade I hope to be assigned to teach. Do to some problems with getting our practicum schools set we started much later into the school year than was originally planned and it put us into the classrooms during the State Testing practice weeks. Therefore, most of my time observing this class was watching the administration of a never-ending string of practices tests. During this time, Michelle didn’t teach a single lesson to her students, in fact she hardly spoke to them. This was because of the state laws regarding testing. The teachers can’t talk of interact with students during test taking. This limited my observation to learning a little about the testing procedures that the teachers and students were required to follow. When I am speaking, be it to a single person or a room full of students, I pay particular attention to making eye contact with everyone in the room, for a couple of reasons. First, I was taught growing up that making eye contact with whomever you are speaking to in common courtesy, and second, I think this is a way to give the person(s) I am speaking to a small assurance that I am engaged with them and listening as well as speaking. Additionally, this is a point that has been repeatedly articulated to me in almost every class I have taken, always make eye contact with your audience. Therefore, I think that rating myself excellent in this is

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

With the end of the second week, my student teaching experience at Wolford Elementary has been fulfilling since I have already performed the majority of my mentor’s duties. The week commenced with modeling by my mentor, preparing me for my unaccompanied instruction of Reading and Writing. After my instruction, my mentor and I debriefed discovering comparable items which required attention, such as, presenting frequent reinforcements and reminding the students of their reinforcement. With the constructive criticism from my mentor, it prepared me for my observation unfortunately, on the day of my observation my primary student referenced in my lesson plan was absent. The first instruction of the day is a group of three students for reading…

Observations: Students were allowed to wear a hat to class if they had paid a dollar. Usually this is not allowed in class. They seemed pretty excited over allowed to wear a hat in the classroom. When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. The way she described the assignment was confusing because she told the students to do the right side of the page, but when showing the class the paper, she was pointing to the left side of the page.…

I’ve seen her turn simple situations into something it wasn’t. Suspending students for speaking on something she didn’t agree with, if she felt offended. I thought she would fail me, because she gave out D’s like it was popular. If only she had simply spoke to me calmly and told me how I had to correct my mistakes it truly would not have ended the way…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…
