After reading, To Teach: The Journey, In Comics, by William Ayers, I agreed with his beliefs and convictions about teaching. His beliefs are very different than most teachers that I have had in the past in many different ways. For one, my teachers always had us sit in assigned seats that never changed and were in rows with their desk in the back of the classroom. On the other hand, Ayers talked about how “learning is active and not passive” and the students can not be very active if they are just sitting in rows listening to the teacher lecture every minute of everyday. The best ways to learn is by having open discussions and applying the material to everyday life which is not usually done in a lecture-style classroom.…
On this cartoon, we can see Henry Clay sewing Andrew Jackson’s mouth. When the cartoon was published in 1834, Henry Clay won the campaign of censuring President Andrew Jackson for abusing his powers. President Jackson was against the creation of a Second Bank of United Sates, after vetoing the bill for rechartering the second bank of United States he attempted to move the federal deposits away from the second bank. However, his Secretary of Treasury, William Duane, opposed this. As a result, Jackson supplanted him with Roger B. Taney and he moved the funds to a different bank.…
The first source is an editorial cartoon drawn by American journalist Harold Jackson. The author conveys that those who think they are doing a lot to help our planet, in reality, are not doing much at all. Within the cartoon, an overweight man is sitting on a chair. This highlights that the man is a sedative individual who consumes a lot. Stereotypically, obese people are regarded as lazy and careless.…
Have you ever sat down at the dinner table, and stared at the plate of seafood in front of you, and wondered about overfishing? Have you stared at the pencil or paper that you use in class, and thought about deforestation? Have you ever wondered if you could be a part of the next extinction because of that seafood or pencil? Darrin Bell, an editorial political and social cartoonist, thinks a lot about human effects on earth, and the possible repercussions. One of Darrin Bell's many comic strips that address the causes of human actions on planet earth is titled the Sixth Great Extinction.…
“Climate Hoax” was created by Pat Bagley from the Salt Lake Tribune in attempt to criticize the general attitude in regards to the crisis of global warming. Unlike, the first image, no one event sparked the illustrator’s criticism, rather the public as a whole did. As seen in these two cartoons, in addition to the public inadequately legitimizing issues, policymakers often wait to take action until the public takes action. However, the public frequently fails to do so due to their blatant disregard for some issues. So, in order for the Flint water crisis and global warming to be addressed properly, the public has to actively speak up for the lack of attention these issue are getting.…

This essay explores how cartoonist Louis Raemaekers and Sir David Low used political cartoons during the World Wars in order to unify the public's opinions and in other causes, to alter and damage the public opinion of the Germans. Pictorial propaganda, such as political cartoons, social cartoons, caricatures, and comic art, played a significant role during war efforts and how they had the ability to sway the opinions of the viewers. Pictorial propaganda was used for several reasons, some being to unify the public, to reinforce already existing negative stereotypes, to make people aware of the atrocious actions, and/ or to appeal to other countries in order to get them to form allies or to try to persuade them to join the war. Many cartoons…
This political cartoon was drawn by Drew Sheneman in 2018 after the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The illustration shows President Trump offering a school teacher a gun. In contrast, the teacher is telling President Trump what she would prefer instead of a gun. Recently, there has been a debate regarding giving teachers the ability to keep guns and weapons on school grounds in the case of an emergency. Most teachers have refused to carry weapons, however there may be a stronger motive than just not wanting a weapon.…
If we take for example political campaigns of 1840 and compare it with the current methods of election campaigns of candidates we can say that basically nothing has changed. In the current elections campaign of the candidates used compromising material to their competitors, showing their negative aspects of life and circulate in all media including the Internet. For example, in the presidential campaign of 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump put video in a social network where Hillary Clinton is shown as a barking dog, Clinton, in turn, distributes the media information that Donald Trump has mental problems. In contrast to 1840 today candidates don’t hesitate at all when spraying mud at each other.…

Nowadays, the novel as a piece of satire is a very powerful artistic form to critique human behaviors and social actions (LeBoeuf, 2007). If we don’t try and reverse and reduce these effects, we could be seeing these effects for centuries to come. Our grandchildren could grow up without a rainforest and have to deal with rampant climate change and higher CO2 emissions. We can combat this issue by electing the correct public officials who will help and finance efforts to battle climate change. This includes the correct president, as Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton believe in and are willing to battle climate change; but Donald Trump and Ted Cruz claim that climate change does not exist and is being used for financial gain. Electing the correct officials is not the only way we need to help combat this issue.…
Equality is supposedly an American value. Not only do we boast about it, but we also believe it to be a human right. Dave Granlund drew a political cartoon depicting the ten-dollar bill, but with a woman as the face of it. In the image you can see that not only is the worth of women not even ten dollars, but that women are seen as second class citizens because of it. The tens that symbolize the bills worth have been crossed out and changed to eight.…
