I. August 2010 – September 2011, professional theatre artist and actor
Upon graduating from college in August 2010, I worked as a professional actor, director, and playwright in New York City. During this time, I focused on creating art that addressed various social justice issues; for instance, I wrote and produced three independent short films on the ways in which women and the LGBTQ community are uniquely affected by poverty in New York. I worked as a playwright and performer for an avant-garde theater company based in the West Village, in addition to performing in several plays throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Once I decided to pursue a master’s program, I studied for the GRE’s and applied to graduate programs in my spare time.
II. September 2011 – February 2013, graduate student at Columbia University

(I am assigned all cases that do not require an attorney, yet do require some kind of out-of-court advocacy.) A major part of my role is research, including reviewing leases, deeds, regulatory agreements and other legal documents. In addition to offering legal advice, I also represent clients in New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) administrative hearings and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (DHCR) petitions. If clients are in need of charitable assistance, I write multiple advocacy letters to city agencies and charities and request funds on the client’s behalf. As well, I also coordinate with tenant coalitions to advocate for rent-stabilized
