Conversations about money being scarce and my family members being jobless became common in my household; Moreover, I felt the baggage they carried. After a while, I learned that I was going to have to work hard in school to outgrow the cycle of not succeeding in my family. My Grandmother would reward me twenty dollars for every A I received in grammar school and 10 dollars for every B. She did not accept any grades below this; As a result, I was on the honor roll for eight years straight. My teachers would always say that I was a leader and that many of the students would mimic me. As a child, I never quite understood “magic” in a supernatural sense; nevertheless, my budding mind would naturally cherish experiences that could remove me from my everyday existence and present me with something enchanting – something new. The first time I ever met my wife was back in 2005. She was working at Smokey’s Dog House as a waitress after school. I would go in Smokey’s Dog House with my friends, who were also friends with my wife, while there we would all get hand dipped ice cream and just converse. After she would get off work at night, mostly on the weekends, we would all get together and hang out. Since my wife and I had several mutual friends, we would hang out often and got to know one another well.…

Moving forward, I joined Dr. James Cheverud's lab in the Department of Biology at Loyola University Chicago. I conducted research on diabetes and obesity to address an overwhelming public health concern. My research investigation has taught me how to make hypotheses, design experiments, gather evidence, and read scientific literature - thinking methodically just as a scientist does. These skills will prove useful in modern medicine, as science and medicine are in an everlasting state of flux. Witnessing the shortcomings of medicine in the absence of advanced medical technology in Korangi Town and Nicaragua exemplified the necessity of saying up to date with biomedical revelations.…

n this wrinkled, stiff, battered leather bag lied my tattered brown diary, my life. Upon it’s torn, coarse, and brown-stained paper lied my life story. As of recently, I haven’t been able to write in the past few days due to the nervousness I felt and haze of suspense drooping and oozing from the air almost as if it were smoke. “What’s going on? Are we going to be okay?…

As I lived in two neighborhoods I noticed the clear contrast between high and low income neighborhoods.
