Daycare Center Observation

It was assigned to observe children during activity at a daycare center, which would provide an appropriate environment to witness the interactions that children have between their teachers and peers. Place of observation is located in Sugar Land, TX and named Creative Minds Child Development Center and observations were held on October 30, 2105 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. The ages of children observed ranged from 6 months to 3 years old. Upon arrival, the toddlers were taking a nap; therefore, infants were observed first.
The infants observed during the first hour consisted of four infants, three boys and one girl. Upon entrance into the infant classroom, it was observed that one parent was there in the room with her infant daughter, and she stated that she came to see her daughter during her break from work. The infant appeared to be content as her mother sat beside her and continued to lay on her stomach and stare at her mother. The mother asked the daycare teachers questions about development, such as “When will she start crawling?” In mists of conversing with the teachers, the infant girl threw a soft block, and then the mother mentioned, “She just began throwing toys at home.” As one of the male infants was sleeping, …show more content…
One toddler girl continued to run around the classroom, follow some of the boys around and attempted to pinch them. After numerous times the teacher asked her stop and sit down, the teacher then told the toddler to sit by her for a few minutes on the rug and “watch” her so she can “help” her. The girl sat down quietly and watched the teacher change a diaper, then the teacher told her “I like how you’re watching, thank you big girl.” After this, the girl went back where the other toddlers were playing and did not run or chase other children for the remainder of the
