1. My supervising teacher does an excellent job of creating an environment of respect and rapport.
a. My supervising teacher does an excellent job of creating a respectful environment for her students to learn. On my first day of being a teacher aide, the students were saying the pledge of allegiance. However, one student was saying the pledge of allegiance in a funny voice. When the class had finished the teacher stopped and said to the class that making funny noises and voices during the Pledge of Allegiance is disrespectful to our country, our classmates, and herself as a teacher. She did not point to the student and punish him in front of the class. Instead, the teacher used it as a learning opportunity to teach her class about respect and how it should be given to every person, and every job. This moment stood out to me because I think my supervising teacher handled this issue in an extremely effective way.

My supervising teacher uses a common elementary school method for managing behavior, the clip method. The clothespin method in my supervising teachers classroom has a student 's name written on a clothespin. All of the pins are clipped to a piece of fabric with varying colors. Each day the student starts out on the color green, which is ready to learn. However, if a student misbehaves, for example, if the student continually talks while the teacher is talking they must move their clip down to the yellow. The chart goes from purple, which is the best, down to red, which is the worst. The clothespin method is very effective because the child must personally move their clip down when they misbehave or move their clip up when they are doing a good job. This makes the bad behavior resonate more and they will try not to do it again because they are embarrassed that their clip was moved. It also makes the good behavior feel fantastic because they can give themselves their own personal pat on the back by moving their clip up to either the blue or purple

Being a student at Queen’s University taught me that the opportunities we seek out teach us about our character and more importantly, about our passions in life; they help us to define our goals and will lead us to be successful. I have been fortunate to gain valuable experience as a Queen’s student, orphanage volunteer, and drop in center volunteer. My experiences shaped my understanding of teaching and learning processes as I learned the valuable qualities that are exhibited by successful educators that establish supportive learning environments for their students. While working in Romanian orphanages this past summer, I learned how each child presents their own challenges as they learn, and communicate differently. In a short time with a great deal of patience and dedication I learned enough of the language as I led games, bible studies, and helped children with conflict resolution.…

Spending two and half hours in each classroom, I learned a great deal about early childhood education from ages birth through eight, and the effort and skills that it takes to create a stimulating learning environment. For my infant, toddler, and preschool observations, I spent my hours at the CCC Childcare Center located in our college while for my kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade observations, I spent my time at Casey Park Elementary School. During my observations at the CCC Childcare Center, I learned plenty about the methods and practices that go into early education before primary grades. The preschool classroom really stood out to me because the centers in the classroom were very open ended and filled with lots of manipulative for…

Reflection on Book Title “The Leader, The Teacher & You” I share the same sentiment with the author that “Walk the ground!” is essential for a leader to earn respect from the ground. Walking the ground also requires social competency skills such as being able to “communicate to influence” and having “interpersonal effectiveness”. In future, I will apply this principle of “Walk the ground!” by constantly engaging my superiors, peers and subordinates for their guidance and opinions through cohesion and feedback sessions on how various tasks can be done more effectively and efficiently. Through these sessions, I will seek to understand their concerns and challenges in their area of work.…
