Before collecting artifacts and preparing for the mock evaluation, I was completely lost. I started looking at the standards in the beginning of my placement to prepare and I kept thinking to myself, “where do I even start and I am not sure on what to do to fulfill the standards.” Once I started full on teaching and talked with Kourtni the standards became a lot clearer and I noticed that I was fulfilling these standards when I didn’t even know I was doing so. The first standard, enhance academic performance, implementation of achievement goals, was one standard that I had quite a few artifacts to share with Mr. Mowes. How I met this standard was by sending notes home to parents explaining why their child was on yellow or below. Another way I met this standard was by grouping my students by their “reading” level for literacy stations. I gathered data on my students and my personal observations of each of them, and from …show more content…
I think you have to teach before really getting the understanding of these standards. I now know that I need to use these standards as my “teaching bible” and make sure I am meeting these when I am teaching. I think by going back to these, it helps me become a much better teacher. I believe one way I can improve as an educator is preparing. My lessons have not always gone the way they are supposed to and I have to remember not to be so hard on myself. If I have reteach something, it is not the end of the world. Overall, this mock evaluation was a great learning experience for myself. It taught me that I just can’t teach to teach. I have to make sure I am meeting the teaching standards so it improves my teaching and my students learning. I am much more knowledgable now on the standards than I was when starting this semester. I look forward to the next two weeks and then meeting these standards again in my special education

curriculum standards and pick out the ones that my lesson would be covering, such as "student will construct meaningful personal connections between self, text, and world," because I realized more and more that my lessons already included many of the standards that this document contained. I can definitely see the benefits of having standards, but I am now also beginning to see the benefits of not having any. One of the main reasons I am no longer as supportive of standards is because with standards, assessment is so heavily based on if your students have met certain standards. I want to help my students make improvements over the term of taking my course. I want to base my assessments on improvement shown by the individual student, not based on how well they met the prescribed language arts standards, because every student is in a different place on their…

I’ve always had trouble writing multiple different rough drafts for one final assignment but the separate due dates and many comments from my professor made everything less stressful. By taking in all of the constructive criticism and using them to be better, I’ve definitely grown in this area and think it will help me in the long run when I’m a teacher. By having these skills, I’ll be better prepared for when I am observed and given feedback and my lessons and teaching…

This is because if you get frustrated it doesn’t help and it doesn’t help the person you are trying to teach something to. Then you both end up frustrated with nothing accomplished. I wish that I was able to be able to grade some of Mr. Kreilein’s papers. I always thought grading papers would be fun and I could know which students need a little extra help.…

These programs by allowing for our teachers to help our students in more than one way. Those students in the twilight program need a little more support, and the educators that are helping them are not following a standard curriculum, these educators are moving on the flow and helping every student they can. The apex program is the same, it allows for students to find another way to be successful. Our principal wants every student to be successful, if that means more of an unconventional curriculum or setting than that might be what is needed. Each of these programs is teaching students how to be successful after high school which is the main purpose to my principal’s philosophy.…

Another thing that I think will be my responsibility as a teacher is to be able to answer my kids when they say “when are we ever going to use this in life.” In many cases I believe that the answer will come easy however, in some scenarios it may be a little harder. You always need to have a purpose of learning something, but some things you are just required to teach even if you don’t think it is particularly important that the students know it later on in life. One thing I read in the Mike Rose article that would help me when it is harder to answer that question is that we educate for a number of reasons, “to…

Teachers also have access to transparencies, audio, video, and software throughout their instruction. For students, the technology content offers audio summaries, links to videos, animation and graphic organizers. On-line students have access to a media toolkit and a student presentation builder. This allows students to create responses to the text, once again allowing students to make a connection to what they learned. Gormley and McDermott (2015) found that students expend a great deal of thought on their choices of visual, video, and audio displays providing evidence of what they learned from their reading.…
