Pharinet’s short essay, “Is College for Everyone?” appeared in an AssociatedContent.com blog. She explains that college will not be for every person since some aren’t willing to learn or even cares about learning in college. Student determination towards continuing with college is simply because it has become the norm for today’s society, their parents urge them to, and the many ways on how receive financial aid. There’s a very seldom number of students that continue after high school with college who genuinely want to learn and give it all their effort. She does an exceptional job with logos throughout her essay. A majority of the points she used are valid. One of which she presents statistics stating, “Though dropout rates vary, it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate.” (Pharinet). Although this is satisfactory for logos, she could use better statistics that could have better justified the topic. For example, she should have taken the time in finding a statistic that was sure with an exact number, instead of using the one she did with the words estimate or approximately. Using those types of word choice weakens the statistics and her point for logos within the statement. However, that being such an enormous detail in Pharinet’s essay for logos, she continues with explaining how someone could make it through college if they are working to push themselves through. Yes, it’s a very emotional topic because people become defensive; she could have incorporated more emotion in her short essay. “College does not benefit everyone. Not everyone should attend college. It is OK to say this! It is OK to believe this!” shows a little emotion, but not enough to say that she uses pathos exceptionally (Pharinet). A majority of people understand how it’s an emotional subject because they have either went through it or are starting to plan to; meanwhile others have decided that college isn’t for them. College courses are not a breeze by any means, but a few people will take on the task to make it through and say I did this for an improved lifestyle. Not just anyone enjoys learning; I know I do not always, but it’s not always a matter of enjoying to learn, yet more so the willingness towards learning. If you are willing to learn, you can be taught, it’s not required to be enjoyable. Therefore, she could have enhanced justification with her reasoning for the topic “Is College for
