Integrity is obedience to moral, ethical, and social codes of society more accurately defined as "adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty," by dictionary.com In short, it is honesty. Nothing is more important than a person's character and honesty is one of the most important traits a person can posses. This trait is one that the Army values continue to develop and hone beginning during basic training and does not stop even after all training has been completed. In fact the honing of a person's moral code continues to grow and change until the day they die. A unit's integrity begins not at the lowest level, but at the highest and then trickles downward. Setting an example of what is expected is one of the most important jobs of any soldier in a leadership position can do no matter how small their leadership role is. Without a proper example, the lower level soldiers can easily go off track and slip up. Which in turn brings down the higher ranking onto their heads when it all could have been avoided with proper leadership, training and personal integrity. It is not to say that it is purely the leaderships fault when a lower rank does something wrong. In the end it falls onto both parties shoulders many of the times, while not always. Every case is different, just like every person. Within my own incident the previous day, my personal integrity came into question to others. Two fellow soldiers called and asked me to sign them in as they were only a few minutes away. While I know I did something I should not have, I trusted my fellow soldiers to be honest about them only being a few minutes away. It turns out that my faith and trust was misplaced. The two soldiers did not show up for hours, which meant that it was me who was going to get into
