Ronald Reagan and the People Imagine living in an America in which people had safety protocols for a nuclear weapon strike. Imagine living with the thought of nuclear attack always on the back of everyone’s mind. These were the thoughts of many American’s before Ronald Reagan took office. “When Ronald Reagan took over the White House, the end of the Cold War not only seemed a very long way off—nobody in fact thought in such terms at the time—but in many respects it actually looked as if the USSR (and not the West) was winning” (Cox, n.d.). One paragraph that stood out to me and was especially interesting was paragraph thirteen in CR3 A,” Who’s Cheap.” This paragraph was extremely successful as it summed up the double standard that exists and that is not talked about not enough. Some women still believe that the men should do everything; that there are fixed roles for gender in marriage and in dating. As Cheap stated on page two, “As a woman, you are so genetically precious hat you deserve attention just because you grace the planet. So, of course, he should buy you drinks.…

Until only recently I didn't know why I pushed myself as hard as I have in school, but now I understand it is because I truly love learning. The Crucible is more than a retelling of historical events, not only does it highlight the key events of how Mccarthyism came to be, but it is not difficult to see the common themes that are displayed throughout this play. In my opinion, I believe Arthur Miller wrote this play as his way of protesting devastating political events that were happening in relation to the communist outbreak at the time. I believed he found interest in people who disagreed with the witch hunts, but would never stand up and speak out, just to avoid their own persecution. This play provides Arthur Miller’s insight to his own view of the communist devastation.…
