Kyle, You brought up some excellent points on the various examples of ineffective listening that took place between Josh and his father. I believe Josh's father monopolized the conversation as well as used "selective listening". He was using two monopolizing tactics that Wood describes as conversational rerouting and interrupting. Josh’s dad continually turned the conversation back to himself and his experiences in college with fraternities. (Wood, page 122) He also kept interrupting Josh. Josh’s dad wasn’t mindful of Josh’s feelings. Another good point you made was the fact that Josh’s dad didn’t ask Josh any questions concerning the fraternity.
