There is indication that this note is foreshadowing what is going to happen in the next chapters. The discovery of the note brings up many questions. For example, who wrote the note?, who is Papa?, and why is Papa writing to him and etc.
This quote explains about the great sadness that Mack experienced four years ago. Through receiving the note, it began to bring memories when Mack’s daughter went missing. Therefore, he begins to question who wrote this note to him. Was it a mean joke?, was it from God?, or was it from his daughter’s killer? This note has sparked up great heaviness and sorrow in Mark’s life that has truly impacted him.
