Family-of-origin is the original nuclear family of adults. This includes parents and siblings. In this assignment, I will be giving an introspective family autobiography. This will include an overview of my family life cycle, ethnic influences, celebrations and rituals, rules, values, stories, and philosophy of life. This family genogram will analyze a three generation family. Included in this genogram are my immediate and extended family members. It was divided into two parts. On the left side of the genogram is my mother’s side of the family and on the right is my father’s side of the family. A genogram key was created showing the five main symbols of the genogram: family, male, female, death, and marriage.

My grandfather on my father’s side has numerous children outside of his relationship with my grandmother. Some of which were kept a secret for numerous years. My dad has been following in my grandfather’s footsteps of keeping some of his children a secret. My parents had me right after they graduated from college. They were very young and still figuring out life and each other. They struggled financially and psychically in their relationship. This ironic because that pattern still continues to this day. During my childhood, my parents were separated. I stayed with my mother. My dad had three sons by another woman. The blended family caused many disagreements about infidelity issues between my parents growing up. I remember many arguments and fights between my parents. I was affected by my environment. I accepted my parents arguing frequently and I started to see that arguments are normal. Boundaries were blended because I was involved in many of these disagreements. There was triangulation between my parents and I. Communication patterns were not good. This has caused a strained relationship between my parents as well as my siblings. They did not know how to communicate positively or properly and my siblings and I struggle with communication at times. My dad structured my views of men. I thought they all were aggressive and loud. My views have no changed and I do not categorize all men as being the same as my
