In Patrick Henry’s speech, Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death, metaphoric and other rhetorical devices are used to motivate and to spark the emotions of his audience. Patrick Henry states in his speech, “...I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven which I revere above all the earthly kings” (Paragraph 1). Henry uses juxtaposition to state his belief that a king is no one compared to a God. He uses this example to explain how they should rather be following the wishes of God or religion instead of blindly following the wishes of purely a man.…

In the passage, "George Odger's Funeral" by Henry James, published on July 1877 in Lippincott's Magazine, the aristocrat sees the funeral as a "grotesque" view on a "magnificent" day. It is the mourning ceremony of George Odger's passing, a humble man who intended to help the common itinerant people of England if he won a place in government. James wasn't fond of a poor man running for a chair in government. He saw it as insulting and disgusting. Henry James' diction portrays his loathsome feelings towards the ceremony in action.…

Patrick Henry, a Revolutionary period statesman, gave a speech on March 23, 1775 to convince the members of the Virginia Convention to go to war against the British. On December 8, 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made a similar speech to Congress and citizens of the United States concerning the attack on Pearl Harbor, persuading Congress to declare war. Both Patrick Henry and Franklin D. Roosevelt used the rhetorical appeals of pathos, logos, and ethos to convince their respective audiences that war was necessary.…

There are is no guarantee that all seven or any of the seven are in anyone eulogy and there is no order that these elements are supposed to be in. Donald I watched in jealousy as Hillary stepped up to receive her presidency. I hated that she was the one to win the election, and my disdain for her only grew as she shot an arrogant smile in my direction while giving her thank-you speech. It wasn’t yet Inauguration Day, and there was always a chance that something could happen to her before then, but I still gave up all hope of anything actually changing. If I wanted this presidency, I would have to take it from her cold, dead hands, and I wasn’t willing to endangering my chances in future elections just to beat her this once. So, in order to prevent my future from becoming any more obscure than it already was, I silently watched as the crowd lauded Hillary for her hardwork and dedication during…
