Out of the three main ways to convince and inspire others, my group used Ethos to invoke emotions in order to connect to the audience. Our group chose to use ethos, much like Will Smith did in “Pursuit of Happiness” when he expresses “Dont ever let somebody tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream? I firmly believe that it was important for the incoming freshmen to know how to stand up for themselves, both socially and academically, in high school or no one else will. In “You're not Special”, the speaker reveals to those listening to him that, “the fulfilling life, the distinctive life, the relevant life, is an achievement, not something that fell into your lap because you're a nice person or mommy ordered it from the caterer.” We decided to draw from this quote as when you're in high school, everything should be an “achievement” and much like others have “mommy ordering” things, we believe in high school you need to speak up for yourself without “mommy”. After drawing from this speech we decided to explain to the incoming freshmen that, “it is important to learn to be your own self advocate in high school, and to develop a good work
