Ethical Dilemma For Guy's Incident To The Police Department

A potential solution to the above ethical dilemma is for Guy to immediately report the incident to the police without informing his friends or Mallo and his gang. This solution impacts each of the four stakeholders differently but the same laws and policies are being followed. In this solution Guy is following the law and the code of conduct from his school. In this scenario Guy is being honest, and is upholding his personal integrity as well as his responsibility to the school. However by reporting the incident in this manner Guy is violating his loyalty to his friends. In the short term Guy will likely feel a sense of relief for doing the right thing but may lose trust and credibility among his friends. There is a strong possibility that …show more content…
In this scenario guy is upholding his loyalty to his friends but he is not being honest with himself and is violating his integrity. In the short term it is highly likely that Guy will be caught anyways and will face academic suspension, criminal charges, financial repercussions, and a damaged reputation but will maintain his friendships. Long term Guy will have a criminal and academic record which may limit scholarships and job opportunities. By not reporting the incident Guy is disobeying the law and making himself an accessory to the crime. In this scenario Guy is upholding his loyalty and respect to his friends. As a result of not telling his friends will likely be caught anyways and be held responsible for their actions. His friends will face potential criminal charges, academic suspension, and damage to their reputation. In the long run they will have an academic and criminal record which may limit scholarships and job opportunities. By not reporting the incident Guy is demonstrating respect for Mallo and his gang with violating any values or principles. There is a strong possibility that in the short term Mallo and his gang will be caught and face criminal charges and damage to their reputation. In the long run it is expected that Mallo and his gang will have a criminal record and a tarnished reputation which may limit job opportunities. By not reporting the issue Guy is not upholding any values for the school and is violating responsibility, respect, honesty and justice. In the short term there will be more costs upfront for the school, damage to their reputation, and an impact to the sense of safety for students and staff. In the long term the reputation of school will be damaged but the school will have a sense of resolution after the individuals responsible for the incident are caught.     In my opinion, after watching all 5 videos I was able to come to the conclusion on whether or not force was excessive and if the officers’ behavior was ethical. For the first video it was a routine traffic stop that escalated into the suspect being teased.
