Our world, and especially the Untied states, over the last 20 years has become a diverse planet. As humans and employees we all bring a different angle to what we do. Diversity is seen through ethnicity, what our skin looks like, either male or female, disabled, and also each of the different thoughts we bring to the table. Businesses, in order for success, need to adapt to appreciating diversity and inclusion. First of all the dictionary says that diversity is “the condition of having or being composed of differing elements”. So each of the things I listed above as being diverse is an element. Inclusion means to simply include.

This is the statement from Wal-Mart. They want to serve all people in all sorts of ways, and they believe by being diverse it will be accomplished. They have over 800,000 female employees, 255,000 African American employees, 169,000 Hispanic employees, and 65,000 other ethnicities other than American. Over the last 5 years they has increase the percentages of woman managers by 42%. They have a Diversity Goals Program, and 60,000 managers paid to increase the standards of diversity and inclusion in Wal-Mart. They get bonuses on how well they do! “The heart of the McDonald’s organization is in providing doorways of opportunities and growth for team members from diverse backgrounds and communities locally – and internationally.” This is the statement from McDonalds. They believe that giving each person equal opportunity is important. They achieve that goal by hiring young individuals who are trying to get through high school and start to save for college. Women, and those young individuals make up 70% of McDonald’s employees. They strive internally to teaching and training the employees of diversity. General motors have groups for the woman employees, Asian Indian group, and Chinese employee resource group, and those with disabilities.
