Disciplinary and grievance procedures provide a structured framework to deal with problems that may arise in the working environment with either employees or employers. They serve to ensure that everyone is treated in the same way if similar circumstances occur, so that issues are dealt with fairly and reasonably and that employers follow ACAS code of practice. An example of my organisations disciplinary and grievance proceedings that follow those practices are shown below.

Disciplinary proceedings

Stage 1 – Prior to formal proceedings
Before any formal proceedings can take place employees will be notified that their performance has slipped below expectable levels. They will also be advised on what action is needed to make improvements to their personal performance.

The warning will remain on the employees record for a set period of time. This will also explain how standards have slipped, what improvements are needed to rectify the problem, a review date and what actions will follow if there hasn’t been any
