The sluggard presents as a fool, or lazy person, that “cannot find enough motivation to rise out of bed
(pg. 268).” Just as the lazy person cannot find motivation, they are like a door that turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed (Prov. 26:14). With these illustrations, it shows that Hebrew teachings on wisdom has a much superior view of diligence over laziness.
Though the Hebrew teachings illustrate the price of being diligent and lazy, the attributes of wisdom and folly are vital in order for the correction in personal discipline. Both wisdom and folly have a distinct definition and are also very far in translation. One can say that wisdom is defined by making the correct choices with what you have or circumstance that you have. As for folly, it can be defined as someone making a very foolish even though the wisest decision would have been a better result. We see in Proverbs 5:23 that when we use folly it is stated, “He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.” We later see the contrast of things when wisdom is being used wisely.
