I, Teresa_______, am the paternal grandmother of Dereon. I have been in Dereon's life since before he knew of it. My grandson’s well-being and safety is key to me. I am rooted and grounded in his life. Over the years I have witnessed some jaw-dropping events. One evening my son, Dexter, went to pick Dereon up from Jazzmine's home and upon his return Dexter was going through Dereon’s diaper bag when he stumbled upon a loaded cocked gun; I urged Dexter to call the police and so he did. The police were dispatched out. Officer -------- filed a report. Officer ----- called Jazzmine and she hung up the phone in his face. We knew that didn't seem to be true so we proceeded to take him to ________ Hospital and notified Jazzmine. Dereon was diagnosed with Bell's palsy. Jazzmine showed no concern and she never showed up at the hospital. Her lack of care for Dereon frightens me and I'm concerned. I was out of work due to a surgery for a short while, I offered to help Jazzmine with transportation and to care for him as she needed it. She didn't reach out to me much at all. I would rather have Dereon in my care than he be shifted from house to house or from sitter to sitter. In my opinion and observation, Jazzmine doesn't display a consistent lifestyle for parenting Dereon. On _______, Dereon was diagnosed with scabies Dexter and my daughter-in-law Amber took him to their pediatrician and on _______ he was hospitalized for pneumonia; Amber updated me every hour about Dereon’s conditions. Jazzmine was contacted numerous time and made aware of the situation but she never called nor texted to check on Dereon the entire week. This caused sadness in my son, to know Jazzmine did not take the time out to call her ill son, or come visit her sick

I’ll never forget the day it happened, January 28, 2017. At two in the morning, the unwelcome sound of Gilbert Hall’s fire alarm awoke me. This incident was far from a rarity in a building full of college freshmen. However, this time something was different; I could sense that this was no burnt-ramen epidemic. As I exited my room and entered the stairwell, I was greeted with the oddly eerie tone of systematic mumbling echoing up all four stories of the building’s brick corridor.…

In excruciating detail, they read aloud the intimate confessions of how this girl had been sexual abused by her father. My whole body tightened as knots formed in my throat and my hands tightly gripped the bottom of my chair. The caseworker then explained how their investigation had found physical evidence to support the testimony they had received and with the help of the judge they would be able to keep her out of contact with her father.…
