Client came in for an assessment. He was referred after having two domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.

SW: I will be asking you a couple of scenarios and I want you to tell me what you would do if you were in that situation.

SL: Okay.

SW: You answer the phone and a man voice who you don’t recognize asks for your partner. He leaves a message to tell her that he is in town for the night and would like to see her. When your partner gets home, you give her the message. She thanks you and doesn’t say anything more.

SL: I will just question her.

SW: If that did not work what would you do next?

SL: I will continue to question her until she answers me.

SW: You have been working very hard lately trying to save money. You

You arrive home late and she is there with a friend you never liked. Your partner says she is going to move in with her friend while you sort yourself out.

SL: I will ask her to talk to me and try to figure out together what the issue is.

SW: Your partner invited her parents to spend the weekend at your home. This was done without asking you. You have never gotten along with these people. What would you do?

SL: I will talk to her and asked her why she did not tell me ahead of time, but I would try to get through the weekend.

SW: Last scenario. Lately, your partner has a lot of excuses for not having sex. She is always worried that the children will hear or see something; she is too tired, etc. After having a few drinks together one night you think things might go better this time, but she moves away when you try to kiss her.

SL: I will think she is cheating. I won’t ask for any explanation.

SW: Our treatment program teaches you skills, how men and woman communicate differently and different type of abuse. Do you believe that you could benefit from this class?

SL: Yes.

SL: I want to be able to get my son to live with me again. I am willing to participate in any program that is necessary in order to regain custody of my
