A time in which I conformed to society under peer pressure would have to be when I started high school. My friends would skip second period and make me feel bad for not skipping with them. They would call me names such as, goody two-shoes and nerd. Eventually I fell into their bad habit so I would be labeled as “cool” and could fit in with their group. As high school went on and my grades started dropping, I came to realize I needed to focus on myself and not about what others thought about me. Normative social influence is the factor that drove me to this conformity.

Society wants us all to toe the line and be the same because we fear the unknown and things we do not understand. People are accepted when they conform and ridiculed for nonconforming. It is a sad reality of life. You spend all of your grade school years trying to fit in with everyone else and the rest of your life trying to separate yourself and be unique. I believe many people conform because it’s easier to be told who you are than to have the courage to make your own choices about yourself. It’s when a person grows out of their need to be handed answers that they start looking for their own way through
