Please consider my application for the Summer Student, Research Assistant position with the Calgary Counselling Centre. As a student entering a Masters of Applied Science in Psychology with holistic experience from three research laboratories, I believe I would be an excellent addition to the Counselling Centre. While all three Research Assistantships were unique, they shared a focus in relationships and on linking theory with empiricism.
The narrative of these assistantships begins with the Interpersonal Relationships Laboratory, where I collected data for my Honor’s thesis. In this lab, I improved both my verbal and written communication skills. This letter is to express my interest in the position as a Residential Assistant for The New School. I also sent my resume showing my experience, competence and reliability as a team member. This position caught my eye as soon as I stepped foot on campus, my parents and I were introduced to Ms. Marsha Dawson at a mixer and through her I gained an awareness of the possibilities of becoming an RA. I then did my own research and came away with the sense of pride that if given the opportunity, I would embrace the resident assistant (RA) position is truly a special one. Indeed, the job of an RA is to care about the residents, and few people in this world can claim that they are entrusted to and compensated to care about others.…

According to Masten, Best, and Garmezy, 1990, resilience can be defined as "the capacity for or outcome of successful adaptation despite challenging or threatening circumstances" (AFT, 2012 p.34). In my experiences as a school counselor, I have dealt with many resilient students who have faced challenges that the average person may be unable to relate to. It is my job as an educator to instill many of these qualities relating to resilience in order to help them lead a productive and positive life outside of the school setting, and succeed to their upmost potential. This year however, I have noticed a theme in one of my classrooms on my caseload, which happens to be one of the most challenging group of students that I work with throughout the…
