Throughout Copeland’s younger years, her mom was jumping in and out of relationships with different men meaning they were constantly moving around. While Copeland was in the middle of legal disputes between her mom and a dance teacher she said, “It was important to me that I not miss too many days of dance class. So a couple weeks after going back home to Mommy, I was thrilled to be in a studio again, turning my focus back to ballet” (127). This quote explains to the reader how focused Copeland was on ballet as well as how eager she was to get back to ballet just after two weeks off. Furthermore, Copeland stated “Dance was still the center of my life” (133).…

Today in class we listened to Ms. Angela Wagenti the president and owner of Vroooom a web based service. Ms. Wagenti created Vroooom in1999 though it was not her initial dream. She explained to us that her passion is and always will be dancing. She graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BA in dance, and a minor in marketing. She has a long history of the many dance affiliated professions that she had been part of for instance being the dance coach for the Dallas Cowboys dance team.…
Back then there used to be a possibility of catching a rising star, getting in on the ground floor with an unknown choreographer and staying with their reputation and ability to offer employment growth. The success on modern dance is so low now that it is almost impossible for “emerging” choreographers to make the next step toward paid work for their dancers. In our dance meeting, last Tuesday, Professor Hapke and Dr. Sims proceeded to tell us that the arts funding was getting cut and that the opportunities we had, will no longer be available. This means huge things where choreographers right out of school, with no shortage of talent, brains, or hard work need almost impossible quantities of luck and personal connections to break through to the next level. The Joyce Theater’s “Altogether Different” series, spotlights “fresh” talent as well as now featuring the same choreographers more than once over the span of the few…
The year was 2014. I was a senior in high school, already I had committed to go to Colorado Mesa University, I had a track scholarship and I was going to major in Geology, ultimately wanting to go into petroleum engineering. The only thing was, I didn’t want to. I did not want to go be a geologist, I wanted to travel, to see the world! As cliché as it may have been, I dropped out, I worked for a period of time and sent myself on a trip to Europe to “find myself”.…
Over the next few years, I would run to class, frazzled and panting, hair half up, to spend the entirety of it staring at the clock, waiting to get home in time for dinner. The school moved people up to the next level every year, so I had no motive to get better at Ballet. Don't get me wrong, I loved how controlled and structured ballet could be. How it takes extremely complex movements and makes them look simple and elegant. I just hated the environment I had to be in to do it.…
Something happened on my dance team this past summer where I received an award for “Most Improved Dancer”. I was feeling discouraged as well as confused on what I wanted to do involving dance in general. The support from my directors and teammates could not have put a bigger smile on my face. All of the claps, hugs, and high-fives meant so much to me. .I was filled with pure happiness, but had so much uncertainty on whether I wanted to stay committed or remove myself from this group.…

I, Officer Humphries noticed blood on Ms. Balmes clothing, we entered the apartment and noticed blood throughout the apartment.…
I have always been drawn to classical music since the day I was born. It was in the fifth grade when I decided I wanted to play the viola when middle school started. I’ve been playing for five years now. It wasn’t until freshman year of high school that I decided that I wanted to pursue performing arts as my future. This has become my absolute favorite thing to do and the viola has become my source of security and is the only thing I prefer to do throughout my day.…
My college life started in the summer of 2012, all of my hopes and ambitions were suspended in mid air. The apogee of the first year of my college life in spite of facing the stigma of my age group; was that of the support I received from the instructors in helpimh making my career goals obtainable. During the second semester of my third year of college I started losing my passion. I changed my major from Anthropology to Criminal Justice and tried to keep going. However; needing to take a step back.…
Slowly, I began to get closer and closer to front and center. My sophomore and junior year in high school, I began to flourish and I was blessed with many opportunities. I was scouted by UCLA’s dance intensive program two years in a row, placed in numerous national and world competitions,…
However, I haven’t felt fully fulfilled by the training that I have received. I spent the majority of my time training at a small dance studio. A studio where I wasn’t pushed…
Yesterday I received a letter of dismissal from DePaul school of nursing. I am aware that my grades have been low for the last two semesters in which I take full responsibility. I write this appeal letter to explain the cause and ask you to please consider reinstating me. I wish to state that my poor grades are not due to low ability or not being able to retain the material. Neither was it procrastination to study.…
Ballet has always been near and dear to my heart, so much so that I took a year off from high school to pursue it on a professional level. During my year away I came to the firm conclusion that there was far more in life I cared to pursue then the four-mirrored walls I had come to know as home. I was lucky enough to find an amazing high school with a specialized “pre-med” program, the director with whom I have come to know far more as a mentor than as a teacher. Dr. Carlos Pulido is one of the wisest men I have met to date, a retired chief of surgery and certified army trauma surgeon, he is a remarkable example of all I hope to achieve in my life.…
Our senior leader, who is the person my supervisor reports has concerns that she will have to respond to questions from her management as to why Tom has not grasped his job responsibilities. Our senior leader and my supervisor were both in on the interview process. Our senior leader is not a good leader and that shows in her ability to coach our supervisor who in turn needs to coach Tom on time management, job expectations, and determining if he needs more training. Toxic behaviors they are exhibiting The toxic behaviors that Tom is exhibiting is his ability to think beyond himself and think about the people on his team, his customers, and the company.…
