My names Rachel Dather, I was raised on a Farm/Ranch 12 miles west of Niobrara Nebraska. We raised cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, cocker spaniels (14 females, 1 male) and crops (alfalfa, sue decks and rotating years with corn). I am the youngest of five children. I have two older sisters and two older brothers. My eldest sister Allyson lives on a large ranch outside of Bassett Nebraska and works for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission office. Next, my sister Alicia lives in California with her husband, he is in the Navy. His base is located in San Diego for the time being (they just moved from a base in Mississippi). My brother Curtis lives up by Lake Norden South Dakota, he works in an all animated no people cheese factory as someone who fixes broken equipment. My brother Joseph completed one year of college and decided not to go back, but to instead help our father run the farm. My Mother is a full time College student and will graduate this December. She went back to school to get her teaching degree in middle school Science and English after being a para educator for 12 Years. Not only does my father successfully run a Farm/Ranch but he also works for the Nebraska Department of Roads and crew chief in the Niobrara location.

Raking is my favorite task during harvest and one of the very first things I learned on the farm. Even though my father didn’t want to teach me with two older brothers already working in the fields. I have also gotten the chance to help amputate, cast, vaccinate, and deliver many different types of animals. One of my favorite things to do on the farm was bottle feeding the baby animals (its seems like there was always something that needed tender loving care). Raising animals and helping in the fields has helped shape my understanding of all the great things Agriculture does for
