I come from a Dominican and Cuban background where Bachata, Merengue, and Salsa are the heart of their society. Since childhood, I have displayed a great affection in Latin dance styles. Back in the Dominican Republic, where my childhood mostly took place, I learned how to feel the rhythm of the music leading me to learn Merengue and Bachata. After many years in this style of dance, upon returning to New York, I started taking classes in modern Salsa. Here my ability in dance grew stronger and I was able to perform for many congresses and other shows. Throughout my dedication in Latin dance styles, I was able to become a professional Salsa dancer where I started to branch out and do my own choreographies.
Furthermore, I commenced dancing Salsa at the age of seven in Lorenz Latin Dance Studio. Here I learned many mambo shines blending them in today’s world while dancing solo or with a partner. By the time, I was nine, my group and I performed at the New York Salsa Congress in the Manhattan Hilton Hotel. This was my first congress, which led me to have an unforgettable experience. When I was a freshman, I was the only person from my year to enter the Spanish Club dancers, which shows the hard work of my earlier dancing experience. Since freshman year, I took part in developing choreographies for the dance routines in Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue that year. Apart from dance, another quality that intrigued me about the Spanish Club was being able to help the community. For example, throughout my four years in this heritage club, we were able to participate in soup kitchens and the Aids walk where assisting others were an element that was not questioned. Now in my senior year, I am proud to call myself president of the Spanish club because I have done many things to help the unfortunate as well as expand my culture with the
