Concert Critique #2
Free Man Cajun Cafe and Lounge!!

After attending a more laid back jazz performance in Fort Worth, I figured I could use a change of scenery; outside of my roots. I was looking for more of a casual place that was kid friendly considering I had three children under the age of 6 with me. Google then recommended The Free Man Cajun Cafe and Lounge. When you walk up to the restaurant you hear the music playing from outside. I figured friday night, it would be quite busy, but did not imagine the liveliness. As the kids began to get rambunctious we walked in. Standing ovation, as well as seating ourselves. Instantly noticeable, a older gentleman employee asked “May I please help you find a seat for you and yours, its a

Chick-fil-a located on 1262 Northlake Blvd, Lake Park, FL 33403 is an amazing break from the traditional fast food chains most of us are accustomed to. The warm and inviting environment mixed with the savory food is why they get five stars in my book. Although they specialize in chicken, they also serve salads, ice cream, and milkshakes. Along with their delicious lemonade and sweet tea. Their authenticity doesn't stop with their chicken sandwich they also have their own sauce to go along with it.…

Within the Marko Combo, the songs of Stablemates by Benny Golson, Desfinado by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Everybody wants to be a Cat by Robert and Richard Sherman, Ballade de Papillon by Jeff Arbisi, and One for Trane by Mickey Bass were played. The Marko Combo consisted of Kevin Buck and Jeff Arbisi on saxophone, Catherine Jun on Piano, Sam Tedeschi on Bass, and Austin Gannon on drums.…

On Friday, July 10th, the local instrumental jazz group Yuma Jazz Company played at Lutes Casino for a couple of hours. The instrumentation was fairly standard for a jazz group, with trumpet, saxophone, guitar, double bass, and drums (I believe those were electric). The guitar and bass, along with the drums, served as a sort of basso continuo, generally backing the horns, but occasionally taking up the melody for themselves, resulting in a texture that was thinly polyphonic. Also noticeable was the “fabulous light up tip jar,” a colorful accompaniment to their music. The concert ran from 7 to 9 PM, so I went in not only with the intention of listening to the group but also with a good meal in mind.…

The concert was presented by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Music’s UNC Jazz Band on Saturday, October 10th, 2015. The concert venue was located at UNC Kenan Music Building’s Rehearsal Hall. It started from 8pm to 9.40 pm. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the UNC Jazz Band concert was a definite change in atmosphere as it was a large band consisted of students. Being able to choreograph and perform in dance concert is a very unique and amazing experience. Creating ideas with everyone around you and transforming those ideas into a masterpiece is a process like no other. With everyone’s opinions out in thin air, you can put all of your ideas into one to create something so beautiful. In Modern especially it was really intriguing to watch the whole process of how the dance was created. Since we did originally have a combo to go off of, it was different watching all the different groups create a combo over the steps but just in a different format.…

As the concert proceeded I realized that the music was enjoyable and easy to follow for the most part. I don’t classify myself as a very knowledgeable person about jazz, but with this experience, I can at least say that I have been to a concert and know what to expect if I ever go to one again. To anyone who really enjoys this music, I would definitely recommend going! I’m sure that every jazz concert is different, so there could be benefits such as the band or conductor being more interactive with the audience or the audience itself could create a different feeling for people attending the concert. I did enjoy the concert, especially being able to see and learn about such a great artist like Stuart Mack.…

It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…
