Example Of A Cultural Artifact

The artifact I chose was a speech that we prepared for for about two weeks and then delivered using only note cards, visual aids, and our memory. I had to have oral citations that gave credibility to the author throughout our speech and had a time limit of five to eight minutes. The point of the speech was to keep my audience entertained and deliver a lot of information on a topic that was interesting and applicable to the audience and me. I was also the “expert on the topic”. I chose this as my best piece of work because it is hard to get a good grade on the speech and memorize my content. Almost everyone gets nervous when they do public speaking and this can cause errors when delivering the message they prepared. This forced me to control my nerves and clear my mind to deliver what I knew I had prepared. This is also a skill that is very applicable to the real world because in business people always give speeches and presentations. This piece of work shows that I take this class very seriously because it can help me succeed later down the road. This piece of work also shows that I demonstrate proficiency of the standards because it shows I conducted research. The research was the bulk of my …show more content…
The preparing of the speech was not too bad, but it helped me overcome the fear a little bit because I knew I was prepared. I felt that after giving my speech I felt I had a structure that was easy to follow and I delivered relevant and interesting information. After watching myself, I could definitely tell there were some things that I could improve in. The biggest one was that I need to loosen up and smile more when I am giving my speech. Two other ones were I didn’t move around a lot, and my mind when blank when I was delivering my speech. These are all things that I can work on, and hopefully become less and less of a problem as I do more and more speeches and get more

My cultural artifact is a painting made by my uncle here at Fresno State over 20 years ago. Since I was a little girl I’ve always loved my uncles paintings but this one has just always been a little more special to me. Before this assignment I had never known or asked him his inspiration behind the painting or it’s meaning, but it never stopped me from having my own meaning for it. To me this painting represented my very young grandma in Colima Mexico, cooking, hand made tortillas for her family, making sure they know they’re always being taken care of.…

Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.”…

The way of life of an association is truly its identity or, as some would state, "how things are done around here". Culture is contained the presumptions, qualities, standards and substantial signs, also called artifacts, of an associations part and their practices. Individuals from an association soon come to detect the specific culture of its own association as it is one of those terms that hard to express particularly, yet everybody knows it when they sense it. A social ancient rarity is a man-made question which inalienably gives data about the way of life of its maker and clients. The artifact(s) may change after some time in what it speaks to, how it shows up and how or why it is utilized as the way of life changes after some time.…

The first object I would say is one of my life’s artifacts would be art supplies. My art supplies are mostly made up of pencils and paints, such as colored pencils, watercolor pencils, oil paints, acrylic paints, and water based paints. This artifact is important to me because ever since I was a small child I’ve been drawing wherever I could. When I became older my older brother would sit with me and teach me all of the techniques that he used when he drew. Art supplies are an artifact of my life because of the role they’ve played in my life so far.…

Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I remember being terrified to go up because I knew that they were going to ask me questions at the end of my presentation. Luckily, I was able to pull through and answer the questions. My presentation was probably like ten minutes and that definitely helped me grow as a speaker because I am not scared to put my opinion out anymore, I also feel that I will not get as nervous if I ever present again. But I am proud of myself because last year I never really participate and I feel that this year I participated more than last year, since I was not as shy.
