Example Of A Clinical Reflection

This week at clinical, it was my first time seeing a very interesting case that I never encounter before. It was very interesting listening to Breana patient especially the family history. Before the post conference, I helped Breana giving bath and changing the sheets. I was in shocked when I saw the baby features and it got me wonder what was her diagnosed and the history behind. After finding out her parents were first cousin, I got dumbfound. Although we learned about different complication that can develop if brother and sister or first cousin married each other, however, to actually see it was very intriguing. Listening to the child stories definitely break our heart especially to find out her parents barely come and visit her. Compared

Yesterday in clinical I was on the labor and delivery unit. As everyone know, mom and baby is not my preference. For me, the problem is not caring for mom or even seeing a delivery, it is caring for the tiny baby. I wanted to be on the labor and delivery side because I hoped to see a delivery. There was one delivery on the unit, but unfortunately the mom was not receptive to having a student in the room.…

Reflection is an opportunity to learn from our mistakes, improve our practice and knowledge, and to also recognise the positives from an experience. If we don’t use reflection, we will never understand reasons why we do certain things or never be able to improve on previous experiences for the future. Reflection is essential in a care setting as situations are always arising, and we need to make sure we work to the best of our ability. This essay will be discussing the importance of reflection within personal and professional development and also the role of reflection in the provision of quality care within a care setting. This particular essay will involve the values and principles of the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and also a thoroughly…

During the second week of class, one of my fellow classmates and I were provided the opportunity to engage with standardized patients (SPs), provide care, and develop our caring techniques (Bornais, J., El-Masri, M., Krahn, R. & Raiger, J., 2012). The scenario provided for this week involved Brandon Sharp, a gentleman who suffers from a spinal cord injury. When providing care for Brandon, my partner and I began by completing a focused assessment on his nervous system and moved onto bathing the SP, changing the soiled bedding, and completing a head-to-toe assessment, which we forgot to complete alongside the focused assessment. We then finished this provision of care by feeding Brandon applesauce & juice and moving him to his wheelchair via…

Thus far, I have learned many important aspects of becoming an effective therapist. One of the major parts of training involves evaluation and feedback from supervisors or peers. I think evaluations are an important part of training because it provides feedback to areas, which you are doing well in, and areas in which you will need improvement. I believe that without evaluations, we as therapist cannot grow into effective therapist. To date I cannot think of any job or career that does not use “end of the year evaluations”.…

It was until I experienced the effects that I truly believed in this principle.…

The first few weeks working at Humber River Hospital in the Endoscopy Department has opened up my eyes. It has led me to believe that the health industry is appropriate based on my personality and values. A major role I provided towards patients was a source of communication, mostly for their own personal comfort as the department is always busy and not every nurse can attend to each patient. Even though it is only a minor type of surgery, many patients still felt nervous, so being able to reassure each one felt rewarding. In addition, once I “broke their shell”, they became more open-minded and willing to talk.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…
