District Common Assessment Essay Ashleigh is torn between the decision of whether she should borrow money from her mom for her dad, or leave the money there for her mom. Ashleigh’s mother and father have a rough history. Her parents don’t get along with each other and fight a lot. Her father treats Ashleigh like she is the most precious diamond in the world, but her mom is very strict. Her father says, “‘All I need to do is put together a little financing, and I’ll be set for life.’”(page 2). Ashleigh’s father wants her to steal $200 of her mother’s emergency money so he can have a good life, and he promises to pay Ashleigh back by Friday. Ashleigh will give the money to her dad because he will pay her back by Friday, her father is a reliable person, and the money will help her dad a lot.

“‘I swear to you Ashleigh I’d have the money in your hands by Friday.’”(page 4). This means her dad will pay Ashleigh her money back by Friday, so her mother would never know it’s gone. “‘ Your mother would never know the difference. Unless there’s an earthquake or Martians invade, but I think we can gamble neither of those things will happen before Friday.’”(page 4). Ashleigh’s mother would never know what happened to the money because there is a very little chance any thing that severe would ever happen. “‘What if Mom finds out?’ ‘It’s me she’ll be angry at,”(page 4). Also, Ashleigh will not get in trouble because since her dad is forcing her to do it, which means her dad will be the one to get
