Descriptive Essay About New City

NEW YORK CITY! You know, when I see New York City, there’s a lot that goes on there. Fast-food restaurants, overpriced sporting events at the Madison Square Garden, and not to mention the millions of people that maybe from an aerial shot look like tiny ants working within their colony. I’m excited to be there and it never gets boring when I go to the same food spots there. The adrenaline rush from walking through a train station that lies in front of one of the largest buildings in the world with the Freedom Tower. No other place I’ve visited has given me that same feeling. People from different countries and cultures just wandering by with every step you take, just like any other day. As a native of Jersey City, I don’t quite feel the same …show more content…
I was a junior at an expensive, Catholic all boys high school. My best friends invited me to go the The Big Apple with them to catch a burger at Shake Shack. “Hey, it’s going to be fun,” my friend, Nick, told me. He really was trying to convince me to go and in that moment my mind was clouded by dull and boring experiences of the same city when I was 5 years old. All of a sudden, I pictured Nick holding my hand with that same iron grip my dad had on my once brittle hands. That grip that left my right hand red and super sore for the rest of the day. My parents were ok with me spending time with my friends because they saw me as a “responsible” adult. A responsible adult doesn’t start skip class late May because he wasn’t “feeling it.” May at my high school is usually the last month of the school …show more content…
This is the first thing I saw when we arrived at the final train stop, the World Trade Center. I took my first steps in New York for the first time in 12 years and it felt refreshing. I wasn’t there because my parents had work-related business to take care of. No longer did I struggle to maneuver through tall legs and feet. The most important thing is that I was there to have fun.
As I walked with my friends to Shake Shack, we talked about lots of cool things. Some of those topics were sports, struggles in school, girls, etc. This was something I couldn’t do 12 years ago but now it’s made into a reality. We walked into the Shake Shack and then I met an inconvenience that reminded me of my dad’s iron grip: expensive food. The burgers were great but their price was greater.
I didn’t go because of the burgers. I went because this was the first time I got to experience New York on my own. All it took was one Saturday afternoon for my perspective of New York to change. A perspective that was hampered by a childhood of boring visits and strict parents was made new. I admire the city for what it is and the environment that’s made it famous. Maybe I’ll go back with my parents to visit since I know we’ll be there to spend quality time. Also, my dad won’t be holding my

I was the most enthusiastic cow at children’s parties, the quickest to put the drop on fries, and the first to say those two magic words every Chick-fil-a customer is so accustomed to: My Pleasure. After years of devotion to the wonderful franchise, I can happily say that not only did I learn how to deal with failure, but I also learned how to flourish from every little mistake I made. I am eternally grateful for my time spent at Chick-fil-A has given me. Not only did it build a foundation for my future, but also made it possible for me to have the funds to attend college. Money was the only thing keeping me from my dream, but now that I learned how to prosper from failure, there is nothing stopping me from being the best I can be, and I’ll never ever forget to eat more…

For the next five years I lived in White Plains, New York and living there was unique, in that owning a vehicle was obsolete. I was able to walk to the store, the park and to school. The ability to walk everywhere gave my the opportunity to build relationships with my whole community and to many, it may come as surprise that even with living in a big city most of the people living within it knew each other. Even though I come from a culturally distinct country and lived in the city that never sleeps I can only call Baltimore, Maryland my home. Living in Baltimore, has had a big impact on my life because it has shaped my identity and personality.…

New York otherwise known as the “Big Apple” is home to approximately 19.7 million people. In a closer lense, New York City is home to 8.4 million people. Everytime I go to New York I always spot the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. For seven summers I went to Camp Matoaka in Maine, each year I would return to the same smiling faces. These familiar faces were always close to my heart, however they were not always in reach.…

Personal statement The year 2004 marked a time in my family’s history in which we took a substantial step forward by coming to the United States. Before that, we lived through and experienced a lot of unspeakable things. Originating in Somalia, my parents understood that it was a place where nothing could be achieved. Civil war broke out, devastating hundreds upon thousands of lives, including several of my family members. Corruption infected the government, military, and all forms of law enforcement.…

In 1986, I was born in the state of South Carolina, in Florence County. I was raised in the small town of Lake City, South Carolina, which was established in the year of 1750. This town came into existence due to the fact it was on a road that ran between Kingstree to the south and Cheraw to the north. Later, there was a road placed between Georgetown and Camden adding to the cross of the older road, forming a crossroads. I have lived in Lake City, for majority of my life and as many others, wondered how the town ended up with such a name and we did not have a major “lake”.…

Many things can represent the city of Miami to people. To me however, from daytime to nighttime, South Beach best illustrates what makes Miami different from almost every other city: diversity. Everything, from the sounds, feelings and tastes, to the smells and sights, makes one feel as though you are standing at the crossroads to the rest of the world. As you approach South Beach, crossing over the ocean on I-395, you can already hear multiple styles of music playing in the distance.…

Being in New York City itself was all too surreal, like a dream come true. Buildings raced each other in a quest to touch the soft blue sky and people littered the streets and sidewalks. Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…

Imagine a seven-by-seven-mile metropolis, surrounded by several neighborhoods filled with homes with unique design in Presidio Heights or Nob Hill, tall office buildings in the Financial District, and amazing views of San Francisco and the Bay from the Golden Gate Bridge or Twin Peaks. As many people view San Francisco as one of the most expensive and difficult cities to live in, I like to think of it as my home away from home. It is a city of seekers and adventurers. I am a city girl and I love everything about what an urban environment can offer me. I got lost within the crowds, found small hidden spots, interacted with others around me…
