Discussion 1 The introduction of evolution and creationism in my household can be debatable. My first exposure to the idea of evolution or evolution as a topic was in church. Growing up in a strongly religious and faith based home the idea of humanity beginning through the whole idea of evolution was shunned. My parents were very open to informing us on what they felt we were of age to know but the idea of evolution always resulted in the same answer and ideology: “ God created Heaven and Earth.” my exposed to a partial view of evolution in my church was a result of the teaching that evolution is a contradiction to the word of God in the Bible, that one cannot believe in evolution in a scientific realm as well as God, and that evolution is the genesis of an atheistic philosophy with the intention to corrupt the mindset of young individuals. In order words it’s “an invention of the devil”. Any information I received over evolution from Sunday teachings and church sermons originated from bible ministering creationists and not from evolutionary scientists.

From Lucretius, Aristotle, Leonardo da Vinci, to Darwin, Smith and Lamarck, many Philosophers, artists, and scientists have produced theories of evolution in attempts to explain the living and non-living creatures around them. ‘Charles Darwin’s grandfather, Erasmus Darwin…”a British physician and poet… proposed that life had changed over time.” “The possibility of common descent based on changes undergone by animals during development…”Evolution is a fact, the theory of evolution explains how evolution works. Although, the theories of Creationism and Darwinism will always have their separate supporters, and most will never change sides no matter what evidence comes to light. I believe the evidence of evolution is all around us in the world with humans being the most obvious and…

Throughout history there have been many debates about whether or not evolution and the Bible should be taught in public schools. In fact, there was once a court case, the Scopes Trial, in which many issues had arisen and were resolved about this controversy. One of the main issues discussed was a debate on evolutionism being taught in school. Clarence Darrow, an atheist lawyer, asked William Jennings Bryan, a devout and vocal politician and a Christian, a series of questions in regards to what Bryan believed to be true about the Bible. Darrow later then explained that science had said otherwise about certain issues which even today are still referred back to .…

This evolution takes place through changes in neural or brain mechanisms, hormonal changes, and patterns of learning, thereby revealing physiological and behavioral systems evolving in concert with one another (Beecher-Monas & Garcia-Rill, 2006). An example of this behavioral evolutionary process is the “fight or flight” response that humans have been genetically disposed to in order for early man to be able to escape dangerous predators. This stress response filled the human body with strength, stamina, and speed to escape a hazardous situation, and those who fought and won, or fled and lived, were the fittest and survived. In Western civilization today, this response is no longer needed for survival, however, the body still responds to stressors with this “fight or flight” response (Beecher-Monas & Garcia-Rill, 2006).…

The Impact of Death on Belief in Intelligent Design vs. Evolution Evolution claims that through the process of natural selection, the best genetic traits are passed to offspring. The theory of intelligent design states that life can only be explained if there is an intelligent being leading the process. As demonstrated in Jessica L. Tracey’s paper, “Death and Science: The Existential Underpinnings of Belief in Intelligent Design and Discomfort with Evolution,” many turn to intelligent design in a search for meaning when faced with their own mortality. Despite the scientific proof supporting evolutionary theory, intelligent design is a worthwhile theory because it provides people with what they seek, which is purpose and meaning. Evolutionary theorists believe there’s no meaning to our existence, denying the possibility of a soul or afterlife.…

Evolution has received mostly negative feedback from society, especially from non-scientists. Perhaps, evolution is controversial because it speaks to the beginning of humanity. Controversy originated from individuals’ religious backgrounds and faith in a higher being but they do not consider the definition of evolution. Noted by David Jacobs—Professor of Animal Evolution and Systematics at the University of Cape Town, non-scientists believe evolution states that human evolved from baboons. However, evolution only claims that humans and other non-human primates share a common ancestor (Jacobs, 2015).…

“It is no the strongest of species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” This quote was once said by the father of evolution himself, Charles Darwin who spent his life’s work on learning all he can about evolution. In the world we live in all organisms change, and were not the same thousands of years ago as they are today. There are two main theories to this process; scientific theory and religious theory.…

Both of these articles provide reliable information to help express how evolution is happening today, as well as explaining the evolution journey of the whale that has occured over millions of years. Ultimately, evolution is something to be understood that happens over long periods of time.…
