Science and religion have gone centuries not seeing eye to eye on anything. This has been a big topic of debate for as long as both of these ideas have created conflict between believers in the differing ideas. These ideas will continue to be argued for centuries to come, seeing already that some believe that they act as complete polar opposites of each other. It goes hand in hand with believers of Evolution and scientology versus the believers in the book of Genesis and creationism. Evolution can definitely show one view of how the world was created. Evolution should be freely taught in public schools because it rejects the ideas of censorship, shows the scientific aspects of how the world was created, and enables students to develop critical-thinking …show more content…
In the article Teachers Should Have the Freedom to Teach the Critiques of Evolution, the author, John W Whitehead states “Socrates, who once observed that “education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel,” would be justifiably horrified at America's present brand of rote education, so reliant on standardized tests and core curricula that there is little time to teach young people anything beyond the written curriculum, including how to think analytically and for themselves”(Whitehead). This article talks about how evolution is the progressive, increasing change over time of the genetic aspects of groups of organisms. Eventually, these minute changes produce an individual that is different from its distant ancestors. It enables students to evaluate questions about evolution. In the article The Process of Logically Evaluating Theories of Evolution, the author, Craig Rusbult states “During our scientific evaluations, we should use basic principles of logic. One important principle, logical comparison, is illustrated (in a question borrowed from a prominent philosopher) by asking, "Is a theory proposing that John is an Olympic Weightlifter (OW) supported by an observation that John can lift a hat and place it on his head?"
