Evolution of the camera phone
The 90’s was a significant era for human development. Technology took leaps every year with its foundation in capitalism and the eagerness to make a mark on human society, catapulting us into the lifestyle we lead today. Many mundane things we do today came to us from this eventful time in history. The tiniest inventions paved the way for the biggest changes in lifestyle. Of all the inventions the mobile phone was one that we can safely say brought on a revolutionary change. Before the mobile phone people were bound to landlines and phone-booths. There was no e-mailing on the go, texting in class or drunk dialing, and most significant of all there were no selfies.

The camera phone allowed us to capture moments of our lives, social media allowed us to share them and people brought closer to each other. It is noteworthy how far we have come in such a short period of time. Not only is it easier to access the world through someone else’s lens today, it is easy to put your own view out there too. That is a monumental. We have cameras on our phones that are better than the digital cameras of the 90’s. Sony, Apple, Samsung and LG make some of the best phone cameras, and there are many smaller companies that give them a run for their money. In 1993, the first cell phone was invented. They were more like a ‘portable landline’. Within the next five years the product was altered by Apple, Kodak and Olympus to handy devices that could fit in the palm of your hand, as the cell phones we know today. Features were extended from just being able to make calls to sending text messages, recording voice notes and clicking pictures. By 1997, there were Japanese companies (Sharp and Kyocera) that had made it possible to share photos and videos from one phone to the next. This marked a huge change in how we used our phones.
