Evolution Of The Bees: The Evolution Of Bats

There are too many species in the world to even try to count, and overtime all of them have had to adapt and evolve to survive in their habitats. Some species have changed in color over time to be able to blend better with their environment for survival. While other species have grown fins, some have grown legs, some have even changed to be both water and land, and others wings. One of the many animals that has evolved and grown wings is the bat, although bat wings are different because they have hands. Also bats have the heaviest wings of any flying animal, relative to overall body weight of course. Although bats are one of the biggest groups of mammals today, they sadly come as one of the smallest groups in the fossil record. When trying to figure out how all they have evolved it gets disappointing because honestly there’s really only theories. Let it be known that bats have small, fragile skeletons that do not preserve well at all. Therefor there is very little information on the early evolution of bats. …show more content…
Meaning there is a lot of different sizes, shapes, and lifestyles of bats. Bats have not always had the ability of flight. Researchers believe bats have evolved from a mouse or shrew like animal. But it is proven that they have evolved in many incredible ways. Such as the use echolocation, being able to hibernate, sleep in the day, the ability of flight, hanging upside-down by their feet, and many other things that only individual species have developed. Bats are a bit different because while having all the characteristics of mammals, they have the skill of flight. They use their ability of flight to survive by chasing and capturing in-flight prey, and the ability to avoid predators. They have become so effective in their adaptations to flight and hunting that the individual species of bats alone comprise one of the largest orders, containing around 20% of all mammalian

Extinction are rarely caused by diseases because of genetic diversity within the population. Over time, some populations may evolve and grow a tolerance against the disease, prompting them to resist the disease and survive and reproduce. i. Other than WNS, a threat to the survival of the bat species, if the total number of bats becomes very small, is a decrease in fitness as there will be less protection among the population of little brown bats. A decrease in fitness means the little brown bats won't be able to defend themselves against predators as their group numbers are too small. In addition, during the colder season, these little brown bats won’t be able to generate enough heat among themselves, which can potentially lead to their deaths.…
