Dogs have been our companions for years. The idea of a dog started out as a wolf 35,000 years ago. During the Ice Age there were many dangers like giant predators and illnesses. At first, dogs were workers and did a lot of jobs human can't do. In the past only wealthy people could have had dogs as pets. The other dogs did hard working jobs just for food to survive. These jobs included protecting farm animals from predators, clearing kitchens of rats, and some would warn people that a fire wagon was coming. Back then we did not care for dogs to be friends but only for hard labor. In the 1800, the idea of having a dog started to change. Dogs were easier to buy and people wanted to have dogs as pets. In the 1900, TV shows and other ideas made having a dog popular. Dogs now help us like taking care of a child or in senior center to make the elderly happy. That is how dogs have changed.
