What are dinosaurs?
Dinosaurs are enormously large reptiles (cold blooded animal) that lived during the Mesozoic era which is about 230 million years ago. Contrary to the general believe that all dinosaurs were cold blooded animals thought to be sluggish, there were dinosaurs who were warm blooded animals that shared more similar features with aves (birds) of these days than with reptiles, example of which is the velociraptors which belong to the genera Theropods. Some of these dinosaurs are said to be the largest animal to ever live on land, so big they could be compared to the size and weight of a blue whale as we know it today, example of such dinosaurs were Sauropods. The Mesozoic era is composed of three distinct sub-eras which were used to classify and characterize the types of dinosaur that were existentin thosecertain eras and the environmental changes which also occurred during these eras. Dinosaurs dominated and reigned supreme on this our home called earth from the late part of the first sub-era of the Mesozoic era called the Triassic sub-era (230-201 million years ago) to the last sub-era called Cretaceous sub-era (145-66 million years). There was a large extinction during this times which led to the wiping out of large amount of land animals, but the dinosaurs survived. Being the only major land animals, the dinosaur thrived and reproduce for many years. The period was characterized by heavy rainfalls, plants and grasses such as ferns and primitive plants grew over large areas of land. This plentiful supply of grasses corroborated the multiplication of giant grass eating dinosaurs of the genus Sauropods which consisted of species such as Apatosaurus, Diplodocus and Brachiosaurus. They have been said to be the largest ever animals to walk the surface of the earth. They had grown into large number and dominated the earth at the end of the Jurassic era.(Natural history
