Basketball was barely televised. Football and baseball was more televised than basketball. But because of Pete Maravich the NBA created the 3 point line in the late 70’s. Now that the 80’s beginne their was a new breed of basketball players coming to the NBA like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Moses Malone, and Charles Barkley. I truly believe this was the talent that saved the NBA and made it what it is today and these great players to it to a whole different level. The game had a lot of great duos in the 90’s John Stockton and Karl Malone, Jordan and Pippen. But the NBA was forming new types of big man they were becoming to handle the ball and could shoot and quick. I truly believe the NBA in the 80’s and 90’s is the reason the NBA is big today one decade saved the league and the other decade it exploded. But in the 90’s there was some records broken John Stockton became the all time assist leader and steals leader of the NBA and he still is to this day. But Michael became one of the greatest of all time. Winning 6 rings. The NBA was getting televised on ESPN and NBC and TNT more than they ever have been especially in
