Over the past 100 years, basketball has evolved significantly. Many things have developed within the game of basketball for the better. Basketball went from the original 13 rules to over 100 today, but its foundation still remains the same. Things that have changed to make the game more intriguing is the scoring, the way things are timed, and the diversity the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have in today.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s when a player would score it would count as one point. In modern day basketball one shot is counted as two points if it is within the 3-point line. The free throw is when a player commits a foul to the opposing team, they are counted as one point. The opposing team is given one free shot from the free throw line. The free throw was implemented in 1894, where you could shoot 21 feet from the net. A year after it was moved down to 15 feet. Henry Biasatti was the first international player in the NBA, originated from Italy. The first black NBA player was Earl Lloyd in 1950. The NBA shows a large amount of diversity. USA today says; “African-Americans comprised 76.3 percent of all NBA players. Eighty-one percent of players were players of color.” Among all the other professional sport leagues, NBA is the most divers. NBA now has players from all over the world.
