AI: The Future Of Artificial Intelligence

Improved Essays
Over the past few decades, computing technology has changed drastically due to the development of artificial intelligence. Because of early artificial intelligence pioneers such as Kurt Gödel, Alonso Church, and Alan Turing, today, artificial intelligence technology enables computers to do things that are considered inherently “human” or that require judgment and reasoning. They can “diagnose diseases, analyze electronic circuits, understand human speech, drive automobiles, and solve differential equations” (Nilsson). Because of artificial intelligence, the fields of medicine, sciences, engineering, and computing are constantly being improved upon and becoming more advanced. In the early 1900s, the concept of an intelligent machine existed …show more content…
The most well known example of one of these programs fits in the palm of a hand – Apple’s Siri. A person can press a button to activate Siri and ask “her” virtually anything, to which she can output an answer, retrieve a map, call someone, or even recognize a song. Siri is an intelligent program that recognizes the human voice, and replies as a human would. “Rather than employing a fixed method, AI has as its constant goal the creation of intelligent agents for as many different tasks as possible. Just as in medicine, there is no universal method for all application areas of AI, rather a great number of possible solutions for the great number of various everyday problems, big and small” (Ertel). This is how programs such as Siri are so versatile – because artificial intelligence provides multiple solutions to every problem that arises in order to perform multiple tasks. The concept of an intelligent agent is crucial to AI development. An agent is “a system that processes information and produces an output from an input” (Ertel). An intelligent agent is differentiable than a normal hardware or software agent in that it can include past memory in its …show more content…
As Hauert stated, “My colleagues and I spend dinner parties explaining that we are not evil but instead have been working for years to develop systems that could help the elderly, improve health care, make jobs safer and more efficient, and allow us to explore space or beneath the oceans” (Russell, Hauert and Altman). The goal of artificial intelligence researchers is to create machines that can help people in their daily lives and to enable a safe environment in which humans and robots can coexist. “we do not want to give up the benefits that AI can bring, including less drudgery in the workplace, safer manufacturing and travel, increased security, and smarter decisions to preserve a habitable planet” (Buchanan). Once the ethical concerns are addressed, developers can use the technology to make the world a better place. One of the biggest problems is that American society is not fully educated on artificial intelligence. If more researchers put information on social media and if the subject was more talked about, people would know the goals of AI and would be less fearful of it – “experts need to become the messengers” (Russell, Hauert and Altman). Although there are still issues to overcome in enabling robots and humans to live together safely, new developments are occurring each day and artificial intelligence technology is on the rise. “we have a

Computers and Craniums: A Continuing Cycle of Connections The enigma of the human mind is a puzzle that has fascinated many great scientists. From the earliest musings of the ancient philosophers to the advanced neuroscience research going on today, many intelligent people have worked to understand what is going on in our own heads. In an interesting phenomenon, our understanding of the mind is intimately linked to the technology that is used to study it, and the new findings that arise feed directly back into the development of new tools. As scientific equipment has become capable of better observing the brain and human behavior, the mind has come to be understood more as an incredibly complex machine than as an incomprehensible mass residing…

Artificial intelligence is a developing technology that can improve human lives. Much of the artificial intelligence that has been developed so far is specialized for a specific situation but the ultimate development in the field of artificial intelligence would be to create a system that can handle any situation, known as a general intelligence. General intelligence is what popular culture often portrays artificial intelligence as. Specialized artificial intelligence systems are everywhere in the modern world, such as Google searches and the suggestions by Amazon and Netflix. However, generalized artificial intelligence systems are the more commonly perceived definition of “artificial intelligence,” even though researchers are a long way from their development.…

Such trends as brain mapping have even been advanced in countries like the united states, ‘the Brain Initiative that the Obama administration funded. There are so many advancements in the creation of robots that can even socialize. So, we basically cannot overlook Bostrom idea by terming it bizarre. Therefore, there are some theoretical and technological implications which support Bostrom's idea that indeed we may be living in a simulation. Bostrom further asserts that we shouldn’t alter the way we live our lives due to this argument by believing that either of the three provisions is more probable like the other…

Scientists used to fear the thought of artificial intelligence, but now they use it in their everyday lives (Levy 1598). Many may be frightened by the thought of working alongside robots, but some are seeing it as an opportunity to grow. Many people believe for a computer to grow to an almost human like figure they must get past the process of just following a system. John Searle believes that computers cannot become human like because they do not understand the meaning of what they are doing…

The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (James Skipp) Intelligence can be defined as the ability to acquire, apply, and retain new information and skills. Artificial intelligence is simply a machine displaying this capability. Although many people may think of artificial intelligence as a thing of the distant future, we already use the technology behind artificial intelligence in various forms today. In its current form, AI technology relies on computers analyzing huge amounts of data to recognize patterns within. This general approach allows current AI to accomplish many different things including translation between languages, business and operations optimizations, the operation of machines, medical diagnoses, and artificial limb control.…

The easy means of communication we know today would not be at our disposal without Artificial Intelligence. There are many parts to Artificial Intelligence and it was a long journey for it to become as popular as it is today. Artificial Intelligence (AI) means that a machine is able to take in its surroundings and compute what is happening. It is a computer system that is able to do exactly what humans can do. But, due to the fact that the human brain cannot be manmade, the program used for many of these programs is extremely complex.…
