Football is one of the most popular and electrifying sporting events in the world! According to Nolan Feeney, “A total of 114.4 million people watched the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24”. The championship game, known as the Super Bowl, has broken a majority of the records in television views in the United States. However, football has come a long away. Many people in the United States did not always like the game of football. In the beginning of the origin of the sport the game was harsh; but it turned out to be a prestigious sport in the outcome. Many rules have been changed to prevent injuries and make the game of football safer. Football was almost banned in the early 1900’s due to deaths and very serious injuries. President Theodore Roosevelt saved the game of football by persuading the college representatives to enforce stricter rules and policies for the safety of the players. Over the years, the game of football has gotten safer but it still continues to be a really collision sport. In the early years of American football, players did not have as many pads and helmets were made out of leather. Although each player is forced to wear more equipment now, players are still at risk while playing football. American football has grown from eight to thirty-two professional football teams. Television has changed the way people watch football games as well. People had to rely on radio broadcasts and newspapers in the early years of football unless they actually attended the game. Technology has evolved so much that now there are many ways to watch football and if you happen to miss it, you can even record the game. The training methods have also changed. Players did not really workout as much in the offseason when football first began but today the players have a variety of different techniques and ways to train to keep them active during the off season. Uniforms have also changed drastically over time. Uniforms have became a big part of the football as well. When football first began, you could barely identify each team but now each team has its own logo, colors, and numbers on their uniforms to make identifying each team or player
