Before taking the biology 160 course, evolution to me was the change in different species over a period of time. During this course we read a book written by Bill Nye that describe evolution. After reading this book I had a different definition on evolution. Evolution is the process of growth in DNA by natural selection in an organism that can cause genetic defects such as mutations. At this day care we have bible lesson every day and teach the children the word of God. My job was to become comfortable with the bible so that I could teach lesson. For me this was a struggle since I was never taught about the bible growing up. As I began to read the bible I had a hard time understanding it, because it was difficult for me to believe in something that did not have hard facts to back it up. Since it was my job I had to push through and ignore my thoughts. About two months in was when I started to teach lesson. It started off well and I loved it, but soon I made a mistake. A child asked me, “Do you believe everything in the bible?” I replied, “No sir I do not.” That was my mistake. I was told that if I tell another child that during bible lesson I will be relieved from my job. This had frightened me so much, because no one wants to lose their job they just got. The reason for me saying I do not believe in all of the bible, because many things mentioned in the bible do not physically make since. For example, in the Bill Nye book Bill points out that in the bible they state the earth is no older than six thousand years. Knowing some evolution background I knew for a fact they earth was much older than that. For me I knew what was right, but this experience was also a bad experience with evolution in the sense I could possibly lose my
