Before taking the biology 160 course, evolution to me was the change in different species over a period of time. During this course we read a book written by Bill Nye that describe evolution. After reading this book I had a different definition on evolution. Evolution is the process of growth in DNA by natural selection in an organism that can cause genetic defects such as mutations. I developed this definition by listening to class discussions and reading the Bill Nye book. Taking this course has allowed me to open my mind more to reach a decent understanding of evolution. I can now visualize that so many things we use in everyday life are here because of evolution. An example would be a flu vaccination. Evolution allows us to develop a new flu vaccinations for the next flu season based on the past flu seasons. Growing up my parents never mentioned evolution. To me they were never interested in how earth was made our how we evolved, they we just happy they were here and living. When I was in eighth grade I was in a biology course that briefly mentioned evolution, but did not teach evolution. I was a very curious child so when I got home the first thing I did was ask my parents. There answer for me was,” Well this thing called the Big Bang Theory happened and now it has created life here on earth.” That was all they could…
