Fundamentalists protested by making it against the law to teach evolution in public schools. In 1925 John Thomas Scopes was charged with teaching the theory of evolution. He was found guilty but the verdict was overturned. Thus evolution slowly crept into the elementary and high school science books. Now it is entwined into all of our children’s public school books, it is even found in math books. In fact, the whole trial may have been a farce in order to make evolution a household word. It was highly publicized in the media and at times seemed as a circus act instead of a courtroom. Now it taught as fact to our children at young ages and as a fact in all of our entertainment.
Conclusion In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s there was a dangerous assault on fundamentalists with Darwinism.
